Bella is a sparkling wine house capturing the natural beauty of British Columbia fruit in every bubble. Made in the traditional method, being bottle fermented, hand riddled and hand disgorged, Bella exclusively produces single vineyard, single varietal sparkling wines focusing on Chardonnay, a classic Champagne grape, and Gamay Noir, an under-appreciated BC grape.
Specializing in Sparking wines featuring Chardonnay and Gamay. Co- Owned by Jay Drysdale who completed his sommelier training in 2003. He managed Toasted Oak Wine Bar and Grill in Oliver receiving numerous awards for his BC wine list. His wife Wendy Rose is co-owner. Wendy inherited her mother's kitchen ( a chef) and in an effort to understand the mind of a chef deeper she took almost every class Dame Glenys Morgan taught at Dubrelle Culinary School in Vancouver, BC. At the same time, her dad started an annual tradition of investigating a new emerging wine region in the hopes of deepening his relationship with his daughter while expanding her already developed palate. It was a surprise to all that Wendy had not gone into service, kitchens or the cellars and instead rebelled into the technology industry.
In 2010, Wendy discovered the wines of the Okanagan Valley and decided, like her classes at Dubrelle, that she wanted to work as a cellar hand for a number of wineries to gain a deeper knowledge of wine production and viticulture. It was during this leave from the tech industry that she found her true loves: her now husband and their shared passion for sparkling wine.
In 2011 Bella Sparkling Wines was founded by Wendy and her husband.Jay completed his ISG (International Sommelier Guild) training in 2003 and subsequently enjoyed the experience of being the general manager at the Toasted Oak Wine Bar and Grill in Oliver, BC where he ran the largest 100% BC wine list which garnered him the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator three years in a row, among other accolades. Through the VQA store attached to ‚the Oak‚ he hosted tastings and wine classes and discovered the joy of teaching.
In 2008, Jay‚s passion for BC wine led him into the role of the BC VQA liaison with the BC Wine Institute and in 2010 he took on the position of business development manager for Enotecca Winery and Resorts. In 2012, Jay completed the Enology program at Washington State University. After many years in the industry Jay wanted to capture his expression of the local wine scene in bottle ‚ and Bella Wines was born.Jay‚s driving passion for the BC wine industry will never subside and he continues to be a wine judge, educator, and consultant through his BC wine guy persona.
