Villa Bacchus is a winery situated in the Beamsville wine region, owned by Frank Commisso, who drew inspiration from his Italian roots to create an Italian-influenced winery. The name of the winery is a combination of his last name and his love for Italian wines.
Frank's passion for wine-making began 60 years ago, when his family relocated to a 30-acre farm in Beamsville, which is now the same location as Villa Bacchus. Frank realized his dream of creating his own winery and constructed the main winery building, which has been the center of their operations for the past few years. They bottled their first vintages in 2019 and are eagerly anticipating the potential of the 2020 harvest.
The winery currently has 6 acres of Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Riesling planted on the estate, with another 24 acres scheduled to come into production within a couple of years. Villa Bacchus specializes in Appassimento style wines, a technique that enhances the intensity and flavor of the grapes by drying them before fermentation. The winery aims to produce high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region, while maintaining their Italian heritage and traditions.
