Creekside Estate Winery has become a haven for wine enthusiasts. A small premium producer, Creekside is known for being both quirky and irreverent, but also generating some of the best wines in Canada. Creekside specializes in grape varieties that are a rarity in Niagara such as Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc.
Creekside Estate was founded in 1998 by Peter Jensen and Laura McCain-Jensen, with the vision of creating a winery that produced premium VQA wines exclusively from the Niagara Peninsula. Starting with 15 acres of land near Lake Ontario close to Jordan, they built a state-of-the-art production facility in 1999, equipped with modern technology for producing high-quality wines.
In 2000, an underground barrel cellar with a 600 barrel capacity was added to the site, which was designed to capture modern practicality with old-world charm, making Creekside one of the largest underground barrel cellars in Niagara.
Creekside Estate's wine portfolio includes white wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay, as well as red wines like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Shiraz. The winery has won numerous awards for its wines, which are known for their quality and taste. In addition to winemaking, Creekside Estate has undertaken numerous projects to improve its facilities and packaging.
The retail facility has been renovated and expanded to include a tasting bar, hospitality area, private tasting room, and patio wine bistro and grill. The packaging has been upgraded, with a sleek new logo and redesigned label artfully conveying the winery's evolution.
Creekside Estate's philosophy revolves around proactive vineyard maintenance and small-batch winemaking. They use established winemaking practices alongside technological advances to ensure the best possible quality for their wines.
Creekside Estate is committed to environmentally friendly winemaking and has been recognized for its efforts in this area. They won the Ontario government's 2016 Premier's Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence for their adaptation of a leading-edge technology for wastewater treatment called BioGill. In 2016, they were also named Ontario's first certified sustainable winery by Sustainable Winemaking Ontario (SWO).
